In 1999 almost 30.000 dinosaurs footprints dating back to 80 millions years ago have been found into the so-called Pontrelli cave (15.000 m2 ). In order to understand how these incredible traces could have resisted till the present days, we need to image the Murgia landscape in a completely different way. In that time almost all the territory was covered by the water like in a lagoon where the highest parts came out. The dinosaurs passed on the beach side to water leaving their footprints on the sand. The passing of time, changing the sand into the calcareous rock, have fixed the traces permanently. The traces that have been found belong to small or medium exemplars of herbivore quadruped, but the hypothesis to discover more traces is not excluded.
