Crafts

In the past handicrafts represented important support to the local economy and social life. Also in the territory of the Alta Murgia, where agriculture and sheep farming were the most important activities, the craftsmen worked to help the farmers in their job with tools made of iron, wood, glass, and stone. These objects were really helpful in the field and with the animals, besides facilitating the work of the women into the houses.
The industrial production which arrived in Alta Murgia during the ’80-’90 caused the extinction of most of the handicrafts, but the few which have remained have become real works of art such as ceramics, stone, and texture famous products.
