  1. OPTIONAL 1ST NIGHT IN BARI

Arrival in Bari, accommodation, bike, tour briefing
Bari is the regional county seat, a city on the sea, full of life both day and night, with a historical centre, a cathedral and a castle, you can’t skip visiting while tasting some of the many typical street foods (panzerotti, sgagliozze, popizze) with a nice and cold Peroni beer…a must if you really want to be an Apulian!
    Overnight stay in bari

Optional (not included in the tour price) guided tour in the historical centre with street food-tasting, with a Peroni

  2. Giorno1 Altamura - Matera

    LENGTH: 35 km (Level: easy)
Train transfer from Bari To Pescariello train stop (1 hour: the stop before Altamura on the Bari/Matera “Appulo Lucane” line):
This bike tour crosses the Parco Nazionale dell’ Alta Murgia and let’s be submerged by the colors and the scents of this biodiversity nest; visit one of the biggest sinkholes of the south of Italy and then get to Altamura, the perfect place to stop, visit one of its old bakeries and try the “focacce” and the d.o.p. bred:
Next stop: Matera, one the oldest cities in the world, inhabited since the bronze age.
It is the European capital of culture 2019 and it will leave you breathless of its lifestyle and for the uniqueness of its houses dug in the stone: the famous “Sassi di Matera”.
    Overnight stay in Matera.

  3. Giorno2 Matera - Gravina in Puglia (by train) - Gravina - Castel del Monte (by Bike)

    LENGTH: 54km (Level: medium/hard)
Breakfast; train transfer to Gravina in Puglia
We suggest requesting a private car transfer (ask us if you need it), it’s more comfortable and, most of all, it’s FASTER than the train. Once in Gravina in Puglia, you can choose to visit the Subterranean Gravina (this visit is not included in the tour price) which is almost” a second city” dug right under the ancient buildings of the historical centre. The fascinating thing of Gravina, as much as for Matera, is the position it was built, on the edge of a deep canyon (from where its name “gravina”, derives).
The path consists of crossing the entire National Park, south to north, ideally joining the two U.N.E.S.C.O. world heritage beauties: Matera and Castel del Monte. You’ll be entirely surrounded by the pseudo-steppe unique landscape (in Italy, the only other place where you can find such a thing, is Sardinia). The National Park is also a Rural Park because it was created to protect both the biodiversity and the relationship between humans and nature; this is why you will find many ancient agro-pastoral structures (old farms, tanks and many kilometers of drywalls) , in perfect harmony with the natural environment.
In the late afternoon, you can reach the structure where you will have dinner and spend the night.
Overnight stay in a structure near Castel del Monte.

  4. Giorno5 Castel del Monte - Ruvo di Puglia - Trani

    LENGTH: 57 km (Level: easy)
Before starting this 5th bike tour,  you can visit the marvelous and mystical Castel del Monte, a symbol of the strength of the empire of Federico II.
The castle still keeps the attention of the scholars around all the mysteries of its function and symbolisms, starting with its characteristic octagonal shape. (OPTIONAL: ask us if you want a guided tour of the castle).
From the Castle you’ll move to Ruvo di Puglia and then all the way down to Bisceglie on the Adriatic coast and then, in a few minute-ride, you’ll be in Trani, “the pearl of the Adriatic”, famous for its white marble stone used to built many precious buildings, the castle and the Apulian-romanesque cathedral overlooking the sea.
    End of the tour.
